Conference of Messina

Learning from the failure of the EDC, the governments of the six member countries of the ECSC decided to pursue European integration in the economic field. They charged a committee chaired by Paul-Henri Spaak with studying the possibility of creating a European common market. The relaunch of European integration decided at Messina (Italy) was to result two years later in the signing of the Treaties of Rome.
